What "free" usually means
Search for a free psychic reading and you will find plenty. Almost all of them fall into one of three kinds.
A few free minutes. The most common offer. You get three, five, or ten minutes at no charge, and then the running clock starts at the advisor's standard price. The free minutes are spent on introductions and on the advisor finding their footing. The reading itself, the part where they get to your question, is the part you pay for. It is not a free reading. It is a free start.
A free reading for signing up. You create an account, add a card, and receive credit toward a first reading. The credit is usually small, usually only spendable on the same site, and often only with certain advisors. The card is the point.
An instant free reading. A form that returns an answer the moment you submit it. No person wrote it. The same words would have come back to anyone with your birthday, or your question, or your name. Some of these are harmless fun. None of them are readings.
A real advisor's time has a cost, everywhere. When the reading is free, either the time is very short, or the person is not a person, or you are the product.
Is a free reading ever worth taking?
Sometimes. A few free minutes with an advisor can tell you whether you want to keep talking, as long as you know exactly when the clock starts and what it costs after that, and you are willing to stop when it does. Most people are not, which is what the offer counts on. If you do take one, decide your stopping point before you dial, and watch the time yourself.
