Two different jobs
A psychic reads the living. A medium reaches the dead. That is the difference in one line, and it is worth holding onto, because the two get lumped together and they are not the same skill.
A psychic reads you and your situation: what is going on with the person you cannot stop thinking about, whether the job is what it looks like, what is underneath the decision you have been circling, where things are heading if nothing changes. The material is your life, now, and the people in it. A good psychic reading feels like being seen.
A medium connects with someone who has died and brings through enough of them that you recognize who it is: how they spoke, what they were like, a detail of their life or their passing, and what they want you to hear. The material is a person who is gone. A good mediumship sitting feels like recognition, and often like relief.
How the work differs
What they are reading. A psychic reads situations and people who are alive. A medium is a go-between, and the sitting is shaped by whoever comes forward rather than by your question alone. That is why a medium sometimes brings through your grandmother when you came for your father. They do not choose who arrives.
What counts as accuracy. For a psychic, accuracy means describing your present situation in ways they could not have known, and giving you a clearer sense of where it is heading. For a medium, accuracy means evidence: a name, an initial, a cause of passing, a private habit, something only that person and you would know. You should expect a medium to lead with evidence before the message.
Where each one is weakest. Psychics are least reliable on timelines and on what another living person will decide. Mediums cannot promise that the person you want will come through, and some of what does come through will not make sense until later, or ever.
Which one to book
Ask yourself what you actually want to hear.
If the question is about your life, your relationship, your work, or a choice in front of you, you want a psychic. Even if the question is "would my mother have approved," if what you really want is to know whether to do the thing, that is a psychic reading.
If the question is about someone who has died, if what you want is to hear from them, to know they are all right, to say the thing you never said, you want a medium.
Every medium is psychic to some degree, because the sensitivity has the same root. Most psychics do not work as mediums. So a medium can usually give you a bit of both, but a psychic who does not do mediumship will be honest that they cannot reach the person you have lost, and you should be glad of that honesty.
